Believed to date back to the 2nd century BC, it’s said to mark the site of the historic battle between Prince Dutugemunu and Prince Saddhatissa — two brothers whose conflict later united the island.

The name “Yudaganawa” literally means “the battlefield,” but today, this sacred land symbolizes reconciliation and peace. The massive brick stupa, over 300 feet in diameter, still radiates an aura of devotion surrounded by serene countryside and paddy fields.
