The Weherahena Temple is one of the most unique Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. It features a huge seated Buddha statue towering above an underground maze of murals depicting Jataka stories. A peaceful place for both worship and exploration.

  • 🚌 By Bus: Regular buses operate between Matara town and Weherahena.

Travel Tips

  • Dress modestly 👗 and remove shoes 👟 before entering the temple 🙏😌
  • Photography 📸 is allowed outside 🏞️, not inside the main shrine 🚫🕌
  • Best visited in the morning 🌅 before it gets crowded 🏃‍♀️🤫
