The Venetian Walls, or Mura Venete, form a majestic ring around Bergamo’s Upper Town (Città
Alta). Built in the 16th century under Venetian rule, these massive fortifications stretch for over 6
kilometers and have remained impressively intact over the centuries.
In 2017, the walls were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their architectural and
historical importance. Today, visitors can walk along the pathways and bastions to enjoy
breathtaking views of Bergamo and the Lombardy plains.
A stroll along the Venetian Walls is one of the most rewarding experiences in Bergamo — blending
