The Riverston Gap Viewpoint, located in the Knuckles Mountain Range of Matale, is one of Sri Lanka’s most breathtaking natural lookouts. Known for its strong winds and endless mountain views, it’s a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. From here, you can see the rolling hills of the Central Highlands, waterfalls, and lush valleys that stretch as far as the eye can see.

How to Get There

  • 🚗🛵 From Matale: About 1.5 hours by car or motorbike.
  • ⏱️ From Kandy: Around 2 hours via Wattegama and Rattota.
  • 🚌 Public Transport: Buses go up to Riverston junction, but a tuk-tuk 🛺 or 4WD is needed for the final steep road. ⛰️

Travel Tips

  • Mornings and late afternoons ☀️ offer the best light for photos 📸
  • Bring a jacket 🧥 – it gets windy and cool 🌬️
  • Avoid visiting during heavy rain ☔ due to fog and slippery trails ⚠️
