(1)
Puna Pau is a volcanic quarry where the red scoria stone was extracted to create the pukao, or topknots, placed on some Moai statues. This site adds an important layer of understanding to how Moai were decorated and completed. The quarry is set within a small crater and offers views of unfinished pukao scattered across the landscape.
