Peristyle Square is the central courtyard of Diocletian’s Palace and one of the most important historical spaces in Split. Surrounded by Roman columns and stone structures, it has served as a gathering place since ancient times. Walking through Peristyle Square allows travelers to feel the atmosphere of Roman history while observing modern city life continuing around it. For travelers, Peristyle Square is a key stop that connects major attractions inside Split Old Town.

What to See & Do

  • 🦁 Spot the 3,500-year-old Egyptian Sphinx guarding the entrance to the Cathedral 🇪🇬
  • ⚔️ Watch the “Roman Guard” change ceremony held daily at noon during the summer months 🛡️
  • 🎶 Listen to the hauntingly beautiful a cappella “Klapa” singers under the nearby Vestibule dome 🎤
  • 🍷 Sip a glass of local Plavac Mali wine while sitting on red velvet cushions on the ancient steps 🍷
  • 📸 Photograph the dramatic “Iron Bank” vibes of the palace’s southern entrance (The Prothyrum) 🏛️

How to Get There
