Located between Negombo Lagoon and the Kelani River, the Muthurajawela Wetland Sanctuary is one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most important natural ecosystems. Its name, “Muthurajawela”, means “Swamp of Royal Treasure” , a fitting description for this vast expanse of mangroves, canals, and marshland that protect Colombo’s coastal environment.Spread across more than 3,000 hectares, this wetland is home to hundreds of plants, fish, reptiles, and bird species making it a paradise for eco-tourists, photographers, and nature lovers.
