Mineral Ground Zones

Mineral ground zones within the Geysir Geothermal Area display some of Iceland’s most colorful natural surfaces. These zones are formed by minerals carried to the surface by hot geothermal water, creating shades of red, yellow, orange, and white across the ground. The colors reflect the presence of iron, sulfur, and other natural elements shaped by heat and moisture.
