The Mihintale Rock Temple, located just 12 km east of Anuradhapura, is one of Sri Lanka’s most
sacred and historically important sites.
It was here, more than 2,300 years ago, that Arahat Mahinda Thero met King Devanampiyatissa,
marking the official arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
Mihintale is a beautiful mix of spirituality, history, and nature.
The climb to the summit involves about 1,800 stone steps, leading past ancient stupas, caves,
and panoramic viewpoints.
From the top, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding plains, lakes, and
the distant stupas of Anuradhapura.
