Metropol Parasol (Las Setas)

(0)
Metropol Parasol, also known as Las Setas de Sevilla (“The Mushrooms of Seville”), is one of the city’s most striking modern landmarks. Completed in 2011, this wooden structure by architect Jürgen Mayer stands over Plaza de la Encarnación. It combines contemporary architecture with urban culture, offering panoramic views, restaurants, and an underground archaeological museum all in one place.

What to See & Do

  • ☁️ The Mirador Walkway: Traverse the winding, 250-meter panoramic boardwalk atop the “Mushrooms” for the city’s best 360° skyline views 🏙️.
  • 🏺 Antiquarium Museum: Descend below street level to explore remarkably preserved Roman mosaics and Moorish houses discovered during construction 🏛️.
  • 🍹 Gastro & Views: Sip a cocktail or enjoy local tapas at the rooftop bar while perched above the bustling Plaza de la Encarnación 🍷.
  • 📸 Architectural Photography: Capture the surreal, honeycombed design of Jürgen Mayer’s masterpiece—a striking contrast to Seville’s historic center 🤳.
  • Aurora Light Show: Experience the structure after dark, when immersive LED patterns and soundscapes transform the wooden canopy into a glowing art piece 🌈.

How to Get There

  • ✈️ From Seville Airport: Take a twenty-five minute taxi or board the EA bus to Plaza de Armas; from there, it is a pleasant ten-minute walk through the shopping district 🚕.
  • 🚃 From Santa Justa Station: Catch the C5 bus for a direct drop-off nearby, or enjoy a twenty-minute walk through the historic streets of the city center 🚏.
  • 🚶 On Foot: Located at Plaza de la Encarnación, it is just a five-minute walk from Calle Sierpes and ten minutes from the Seville Cathedral 📍.

Travel Tips

  • 🌅 Sunset Timing: Aim to be on the walkway 20 minutes before sunset to witness the Giralda and Cathedral silhouetted against a golden sky 📸.
  • 🎟️ Online Booking: Tickets include the elevator to the top and often a small discount at the rooftop café; buy online to skip the ground-floor queues 🎫.
  • 👟 Practicality: The walkway has some inclines and stairs; wear comfortable shoes to enjoy the full circuit comfortably 👣.
  • 🥖 Market Visit: Visit the traditional Mercado de la Encarnación at the base of the structure for fresh local produce and authentic breakfast 🍓.
