The Mahamevnāwa Gardens, also known as the Mahamevna Uyana, is the spiritual heart of
Anuradhapura — the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
It was here, more than 2,300 years ago, that Arahat Mahinda Thero met King Devanampiyatissa,
introducing Buddhism to the island.
Today, the gardens are a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by ancient monuments such as the Jaya
Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanwelisaya, Lovamahapaya, and Thuparamaya.
Lined with Bodhi trees, flower altars, and ancient stone paths, Mahamevnāwa is the perfect place
to walk, meditate, and feel the timeless spiritual energy of Anuradhapura.
