Kennin-ji Temple, located in the Gion district of Kyoto, is the city’s oldest Zen temple, founded in 1202. Known for its peaceful atmosphere, impressive artwork, and beautifully maintained temple halls, Kennin-ji offers a deep insight into Japan’s Zen Buddhist heritage. The temple is especially famous for its iconic twin dragon ceiling painting, serene Zen gardens, and historic architecture.
