Isuien Garden is one of Nara’s most beautiful traditional Japanese gardens, known for its scenic ponds, tea houses, stone pathways, and elegant use of ‘borrowed scenery’ (shakkei), incorporating the distant views of Todaiji’s Nandaimon Gate and nearby mountains. The garden dates back to the Edo period and is divided into two sections̶front and rear gardens̶each showcasing classic Japanese landscape design.
