Hunebed D43 is one of the most remarkable prehistoric stone tombs in the Netherlands.
Located near Emmen, it dates back over 5,000 years to the Neolithic era and was built by
the Funnelbeaker people, one of Europe’s earliest farming communities. Known as a
hunebed (Dutch for “giant’s bed”), this megalithic structure is part of the Drenthe
province’s rich archaeological heritage.
As one of the largest and best-preserved hunebeds in the region, D43 gives visitors a
fascinating glimpse into ancient Dutch history. The site is surrounded by peaceful
