Historic City Walls

The historic city walls of Covilhã are among the most interesting reminders of the town’s medieval past. Once protecting the hillside city from attack, sections of the old stone walls and defensive structures can still be seen around the historic centre. Today the remaining walls offer visitors a glimpse into the strategic importance of Covilhã and provide atmospheric walking routes through the upper part of the city.
