Bom Jesus Elevator

The Bom Jesus Elevator is one of the world’s oldest water‑powered funiculars and connects the lower part of the hill with the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte above Braga. Since opening in the 19th century, it has carried pilgrims and visitors up the steep hillside, offering a unique and historic travel experience. Today the elevator remains fully operational, allowing travellers to enjoy a relaxing ride to the sanctuary while avoiding the long hill climb.
