The Wisdom Path is one of Ngong Ping’s best surprises because it feels removed from the main
tourist flow. A short walk from the monastery area takes you onto a quiet slope where tall wooden
pillars form an infinity-shaped layout. Each pillar carries Chinese calligraphy from the Heart Sutra,
turning the hillside into an open-air work of art you can walk through.
This is not a “do it quickly” attraction. The point is the atmosphere: wind through the grass, big
mountain silence, and the simple rhythm of moving from pillar to pillar. Because it is outdoors,
the experience changes with the weather – mist makes it mysterious, and clear skies make the
surrounding peaks feel close enough to touch. It is also an easy add-on to a Ngong Ping day. Visit
after the Big Buddha when you want a calmer moment, or start here in the morning when the
slope is quiet. The path is short, but it gives you that rare feeling of space on Lantau, without
needing a long hike or special gear. It is ideal for travellers who prefer quiet places.
