The Tomb of Tutankhamun is one of the most famous archaeological discoveries in the world, located in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor. Discovered in 1922, the tomb belonged to the young pharaoh Tutankhamun of the 18th Dynasty. Although smaller than many royal tombs, it gained global attention due to the incredible treasures found inside. Today, visitors can enter the tomb chamber and view wall paintings and the pharaoh’s burial chamber. How to Get There

  • 🚶 On Foot: Once inside the **Valley of the Kings**, KV62 is centrally located, just a 5-minute walk from the visitor shuttle drop-off point 👣.
  • 🚐 By Tour: Almost all West Bank tours stop here, though guides aren’t allowed inside the tomb; they will brief you outside using 2D maps or digital tablets 🎒.
  • 🚕 By Taxi: Direct taxis from Luxor East Bank take about 30 minutes. Ask to be dropped at the Valley of the Kings Visitor Center 🚗.

Travel Tips

  • 🎟️ Special Ticket Required: Access to KV62 is NOT included in the general Valley of the Kings ticket. You must purchase a separate ticket (approx. 500 EGP as of early 2026) at the main entrance 🎫.
  • 📸 Photography Policy: Photography inside KV62 is strictly regulated. While smartphone photos are sometimes permitted with a permit, flash is absolutely prohibited to protect the pigments 📵.
  • 🧥 Space Constraints: The tomb is much smaller than others in the valley and can feel claustrophobic during peak hours. Arrive by 7:30 AM to have the chamber nearly to yourself 🕒.
  • 🛡️ Preservation: Do not touch the walls or the glass casing. The humidity generated by breath is the site’s biggest threat, so keep your visit inside the chamber to about 10–15 minutes 🌬️.

  • 🕒 07:30 AM – **Enter Valley of the Kings:** Arrive right as the gates open to enjoy the cool morning air and minimal queues 📍.
  • 🕒 08:00 AM – **Visit Tomb of Tutankhamun:** Head straight to KV62 before the large tour groups arrive at 9:00 AM 👑.
  • 🕒 09:00 AM – **Explore additional tombs:** Use your general ticket to visit three other royal tombs like KV11 (Ramesses III) or KV2 (Ramesses IV) 🏛️.
  • 🕒 11:30 AM – **Return to Luxor:** Catch the electric tram back to the visitor center and head back to town for a traditional lunch 🍽️.
