Dahab Lagoon

(0)
Dahab Lagoon is a wide coastal area known for its shallow waters, sandy shoreline, and calm atmosphere. It is one of the most peaceful spots in Dahab, popular with both travelers and locals. The lagoon is ideal for slow beach walks, relaxing by the water, and enjoying views of the Red Sea and surrounding mountains. The gentle waves and open space create a soothing environment throughout the day. For travelers, Dahab Lagoon offers a perfect balance of nature, sea views, and laid-back coastal life

What to See & Do

  • 🏖️ Walk along the sandy shoreline: Explore the “sandspit,” a narrow strip of land that stretches far into the sea, offering water on both sides and a unique 360-degree horizon 👣.
  • 🌊 Relax near shallow water: The lagoon’s knee-deep, waist-high sections are perfect for a safe, relaxed swim or simply wading through the warm Red Sea 🏊.
  • 🔭 Enjoy Red Sea views: Look across the Gulf of Aqaba toward the distant mountains of Saudi Arabia, which often glow pink in the afternoon light 🏔️.
  • 📸 Beach & Landscape Photography: Capture the contrast between the turquoise lagoon, the deep blue of the open sea, and the jagged red granite mountains 🤳.
  • 🏄 Watch Wind & Kitesurfers: Witness world-class athletes (and brave beginners) performing aerial tricks and high-speed runs in the specialized “Speed Track” zone 🌬️.
  • The Magic Lake (Salt Lake): Discover this small, hyper-saline pond located immediately next to the main lagoon, known for its extra buoyancy and local legends 🏺.

How to Get There

  • 🚗 By Car/Taxi: The Lagoon is a short 5-10 minute drive south from the Dahab boardwalk (Masbat/Lighthouse area). Ask the driver for “The Laguna” 🚗.
  • 🚲 By Bicycle: Renting a bike is a favorite local way to get there; the flat road along the coast makes for a scenic 15-minute ride 🚲.
  • 🚶 On Foot: If you enjoy walking, it is a pleasant 20-30 minute stroll from the southern end of the Dahab promenade (near Mashraba) 👣.

Travel Tips

  • ☀️ Sun Protection: The white sand reflects UV rays intensely. Bring high-SPF sunscreen, a hat, and polarized sunglasses to enjoy the water without the glare 🧴.
  • 🦶 Footwear: While much of the lagoon is sandy, some areas have sharp shells or small stones. Bringing water shoes is recommended if you plan to walk far out onto the sandspit 👟.
  • 🌬️ Wind Awareness: If you prefer calm, mirror-like water for swimming, visit in the early morning. The wind typically picks up by 11:00 AM, which is great for watching the surfers but less ideal for a quiet dip 💨.
  • 🧺 Amenities: Several Bedouin-style cafés with cushions and shades are scattered along the beach. They often charge a small fee for use but offer a great “base” for the day ☕.

Suggested Itinerary

  • 🕒 08:00 AM – Arrive at the Lagoon for a morning walk. This is when the water is at its most transparent and peaceful 📍.
  • 🕒 09:00 AM – Find a spot near the shallow water areas to relax, swim, and watch the first windsurfers of the day set up their gear 🏖️.
  • 🕒 4:30 PM – Head to the far end of the sandspit for sunset views. Watch the sun dip behind the Sinai mountains, casting a golden glow over the water 🌅.
  • 🕒 6:00 PM – **Return to Dahab town** via a quick taxi or a twilight bike ride for a seafood dinner on the boardwalk 🍽️.
