Qaitbay Citadel is a 15th-century fortress located at the entrance of Alexandria’s Eastern Harbor. Built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, the citadel played an important role in defending the city’s coastline. How to Get There

  • 🚃 By Tram: Take the yellow tram to the Anfushi or Qasr El Tin stop; from there, it is a pleasant 10-minute walk through the local fish market district 🚋.
  • 🚶 On Foot: If you are already exploring the Anfushi district or the Ras El Tin area, the citadel is the primary landmark visible from any coastal point 👣.

  • 👟 Comfortable Shoes: The floors and ramparts consist of uneven, centuries-old stone blocks. Wear shoes with good grip to avoid slipping 👣.
