City Park is one of Denver’s largest and most beautiful public parks. Known for its open green spaces, lakes, and mountain views, the park offers a relaxing escape within the city and is popular for walking, picnics, and outdoor activities

What to See & Do

  • 🏃 Walk or jog the 3.1-mile (5K) perimeter trail or scenic lakeside 🌊 paths
  • 📸 Capture the iconic “Denver View” of the skyline against the Rockies from the 🏛️ Museum Sky Terrace
  • 🦒 Visit the Denver Zoo or explore dinosaur fossils at the 🦖 Museum of Nature & Science
  • 🛶 Relax with a paddleboat rental on Ferril Lake (seasonal) or a 🧺 picnic on the rolling green lawns

How to Get There

  • 🚗 By Car: Located between 17th and 23rd Avenues, just 10 minutes from 🏙️ downtown Denver
  • 🚌 By Bus: RTD Routes #20, #24, #32, and #40 all provide 🚍 convenient stops near the park
  • 🅿️ Parking: Free parking is available along most interior roads and in 🚘 dedicated museum/zoo lots

Travel Tips

  • 🧴 Bring water and sun protection; the high-altitude sun ☀️ is stronger than you might expect
  • 🗓️ Check the 2026 “Free Day” schedule (SCFD) for the 🦖 Museum and 🦒 Zoo to plan for (or avoid) crowds
  • ⚖️ Note that picnic permits are required for groups over 25, and glass 🍷 containers are prohibited

Suggested Itinerary

  • 🕗 08:00 AM – Morning walk around Ferril Lake; catch the skyline 🏙️ reflection and mountain ⛰️ views
  • 🕙 10:00 AM – Head to the Museum of Nature & Science 🏛️ (don’t miss the 🦖 Prehistoric Journey exhibit)
  • 🕛 12:00 PM – Enjoy a picnic near the ⛲ Pavilion or lunch at a nearby café like 🥐 Syrup or ☕ Under the Umbrella
