Forest Research Institute Malaysia, commonly known as FRIM, is a large tropical forest reserve located on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Once a former mining area, FRIM has been transformed into a thriving green space with forest trails, canopy walks, and rich biodiversity. It is an ideal destination for nature lovers, hikers, and travelers seeking a peaceful outdoor experience close to the city.

Travel Tips

  • 🚕 **Ride-Hailing (Grab)**: The easiest way. Set your destination to **Kepong Botanic Gardens (KBG)** for direct access to the Skywalk entrance 🏁
  • 🚆 **KTM Komuter**: Take the train to **Kepong Station** or **Kepong Sentral**. From there, a 10-minute Grab ride will get you to the main gate 🏁
  • 🚗 **By Private Car**: Ample parking is available at the Botanic Gardens entrance for a small fee of **RM 5** 🅿️

Suggested Itinerary

  • 🎟️ **Skywalk Booking**: Online booking is **compulsory** via the [official portal](https://skywalk.frim.gov.my/). Slots are limited to 40 people per hour; morning slots fill up fast! 🕰️
  • 💴 **Entrance Fees**: Entry to the Botanic Garden is **RM 1 (Local)** / **RM 5 (Foreigner)**. The Skywalk is an additional **RM 15 (Local)** / **RM 40 (Foreigner)** 🪙
  • 🚫 **Age & Health**: Children under **7 years old** are not allowed on the Skywalk. The 50m tower has an age limit of **13+** and an extra RM 5–10 fee 🧗
  • 🗓️ **Weekly Closure**: Note that FRIM and the Skywalk are **closed every Friday**. Plan your trip for any other day of the week 🚫
  • 👟 **Proper Gear**: Wear closed-toe sports shoes. Bring water and insect repellent, as the forest mosquitoes are quite active 🦟
