The Karmawibangga Museum, located within the Borobudur Temple complex in Magelang, Central
Java, showcases original stone reliefs and archaeological findings from the world-famous temple.
It’s part of the Borobudur Museum complex that helps visitors understand the history, art, and
restoration of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The museum’s name, ‘Karmawibangga,’ comes from the base reliefs of Borobudur that depict
moral stories based on the law of cause and effect (karma). These reliefs were originally hidden by
the temple’s stone encasement and are now preserved and displayed for public viewing.
