The Fountain of Orion (Fontana di Orione) is one of Messina’s most celebrated Renaissance landmarks. Designed by Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli, a student of Michelangelo, the fountain was completed in 1553 and stands proudly in Piazza del Duomo. It represents Orion, the mythological founder of Messina, surrounded by symbolic figures representing the city’s rivers and virtues.
