Molentargius–Saline Regional Park is one of Cagliari’s most remarkable natural reserves, located
between the city and Poetto Beach. This protected wetland area is world-famous for its population of
pink flamingos and diverse ecosystem of birds, plants, and aquatic life. Covering over 1,600 hectares,
the park is a peaceful escape for nature lovers and birdwatchers.
The name ‘Molentargius’ comes from the Sardinian word for ‘donkey drivers,’ referring to the workers
who once transported salt from the nearby ponds. Today, the park serves as both a wildlife sanctuary
and a reminder of Sardinia’s rich environmental history.
