Basílica del Voto Nacional is one of the most impressive landmarks in Quito.
This massive neo-Gothic church rises above the historic center and is
considered the largest Gothic-style basilica in the Americas.
Construction began in the late 19th century and the building is famous for its
dramatic towers, stained-glass windows, and detailed stone carvings. One
unique feature of the basilica is the set of gargoyles shaped like animals native
to Ecuador, including iguanas, turtles, and condors.
Visitors can climb the towers and walkways for panoramic views over Quito’s
historic center and the surrounding mountains. From the top, travelers can see
the colonial rooftops, church domes, and distant volcanoes.
For travelers, Basílica del Voto Nacional offers both architectural beauty and
one of the best viewpoints in Quito.
