Devil’s Throat

0
(0)
Devil’s Throat, known locally as Garganta del Diablo, is the most dramatic and powerful section of Iguazu Falls. This horseshoe-shaped cascade marks the point where massive volumes of water plunge into a deep gorge, creating intense mist and roaring sound. Standing on the viewing platforms above Devil’s Throat gives travelers a breathtaking sense of scale and raw natural force. It is considered the highlight of any visit to Iguazu Falls.

What to See & Do

  • 🌊 Walk along the 1.1-kilometer (0.7-mile) bridge spanning the upper Iguazu River 🚶‍♂️
  • 👂 Experience the deafening “symphony” of thousands of tons of water crashing every second 🔊
  • 🌈 Observe brilliant, permanent rainbows arching through the constant wall of spray 🌈
  • 📸 Capture dramatic vertical shots looking directly down into the “throat” of the falls 🤳
  • 🦋 Spot vibrant tropical butterflies and curious coatis along the approach path 🦋

How to Get There

  • 🚂 By Park Train: Board the “Tren Ecológico de la Selva” at the Central or Cataratas station. Ride to the final stop: Estación Garganta 🚉
  • 🚶 On Foot: From the train station, follow the flat, metal boardwalk for about 15–20 minutes to reach the main viewing platform 👟
  • 🚕 By Taxi/Bus: Take the “Rio Uruguay” bus from the Puerto Iguazú terminal directly to the park gates; then follow the train route above 🚌

Travel Tips

  • 🎟️ Train Tickets: In 2026, you must obtain a (free) timed boarding pass for the train at the station to manage crowds—get yours early! ⏳
  • 🧥 Stay Dry: A high-quality poncho is essential; the spray is intense enough to soak through light clothing in minutes 🌧️
  • 📱 Waterproof Your Tech: Use a dry bag or waterproof case. The mist at the edge is constant and can damage non-sealed electronics 📷
  • 🚧 Check Status: This walkway is sometimes closed after heavy floods for safety; verify the status at the visitor center upon entry ⚠️
