The Rose Quartz Mountain Range, located within Jathika Namal Uyana near Dambulla, is the largest natural quartz deposit in South Asia. This rare geological wonder, surrounded by an ancient ironwood forest, is estimated to be over 500 million years old. The shimmering pink hue of the rocks under sunlight makes it a truly breathtaking sight. Jathika Namal Uyana is also an important historical and ecological site, once serving as a meditation retreat for Buddhist monks during the reign of King Devanampiyatissa.

  • From Kandy 🏰: approximately 3 hours 🧭 by car 🚘 or public bus 🚌 to Dambulla, then 20 minutes to Namal Uyana 🗺️
  • By Bus 🚌: regular intercity buses 🚦 from Colombo and Kandy stop at Madatugama Junction 📍. Tuk-tuks 🛺 are available to the park entrance ✅
  • By Train 🚂: the nearest station 🚉 is in Matale (45 km away) 🗺️, where taxis 🚕 and local buses 🚌 connect to Dambulla 🤝
  • Local Transport 🛵: Tuk-tuks 🛺 and motorbikes 🏍️ can easily reach the entrance 🚪 through the Namal Uyana access road 💨💨
