The Serapeum of Saqqara is an underground complex built to house the sarcophagi of sacred Apis bulls. These massive granite coffins were carved with incredible precision and placed in long underground tunnels. Dating mainly to the New Kingdom and later periods, the Serapeum reflects the religious importance of the Apis bull cult in ancient Egypt.
